Can you please add “save for later” and “more like this” buttons? Sometimes I don’t have time to read right that second but it captures my interest, only for all the stories I hearted to go missing after the auto-refresh. There’s a bookmark article button, but that’s only if you click into the story. I appreciate getting to dismiss what I don’t like, but the algorithm isn’t swift enough to understand what I DO like, at least not now. A “more” button would be easier. Thank you.

Update: Yep, you fixed it with today’s (July 7) update! Works fine again. Thanks Google! Today’s (June 6, 2022) update has rendered the app useless. It crashes instantly upon opening and says: “Unfortunately, Google News stopped.” And it continues to run and crash in the background. Needs fixed. Good app until this. Will update review when fixed.

App won’t even start after the 6 July update. Android just says the app has a big and won’t open. Cleared cache, cleared data, uninstalled and reinstalled, still nada. I have no idea what’s going on. EDIT: I want to leave the original review for the fact that the Google team responded insanely fast and I’ve redownloaded the app and everything works as expected. Thank you sincerely to the Devs. I’m not a Dev but I work with them so I know it’s difficult to respond to user bugs. Y’all Rock!

It’s been more than 2 year since the Android version of this for ChromeOS became a Progressive Web App, and it has nearly achieved parity. It has a Dark Theme, open all links in-app, and an improved UI. But there is no Direct Sharing of articles to other Google News users, and no Push Notifications. It also is not fully touchscreen friendly. Certain menus are hidden until you hover a Mouse Cursor over them. This feature gap has existed for too long now. Please address these shortcomings ASAP.

Completely unusable. The ad overlays make this app impossible to interact with. If you happen to have a weak internet connection don’t even bother to open this app. So much good possibilities with the configurable news feed but such a piece of garbage for an interface that I completely uninstall and/or disable it entirely. Too bad, such potential wasted.

Very select news stories and sources, it comes across as being biased. Despite loading my “interests” list with certain things, they’ll still show what they think you should see. It’s fine at best, I’d suggest finding other news aggregate options. Update: yikes, your reply of “help you make sense of the news” is kinda alarming. Thank you for confirming my suspicions

As of July 8, I keep getting popups about Google news not responding and to report or close app flashing fast on my screen. It flashes so fast I can’t click on close app. I didn’t even know it was open. I reported it, but it keeps doing it. I haven’t even opened Google news today and it’s still doing it.

This app is mediocre at best. It functions well and I can honestly say I’ve never experienced a crash. However, the best articles, from the major sources, always seem to be limited in their free reading. This makes zero sense as you can look up the article on the web for free at any time after you’ve reached your limit on Google News. I would much rather have a set monthly charge from Google News and allow totally free reading. It gets extremely frustrating to go back and forth.

May 1, 2022

Constantly shows articles related to subjects I have no interest in despite my preference selections and constantly hiding or blocking articles, subjects, and sources. Now the option to “see less stories like this” is totally gone and I am blocking major news sources, and still I am shown things I know I have told the app not to show. The options to edit the news feed are symbolic and worthless. If you truly want to tailor a news feed I presume there are better options.

I’ve used this for a while and its a great easy way for me to read up on some news almost everyday. Recently many random Chinese articles have showed up and I repeatedly removed them either by choosing don’t show content on the topic, source, or in Chinese but the next day more will show up. There are no signs of my account being hacked and I don’t understand why it seems like the feedback isnt working.
